Dear Friends in Yoga
“We have down sized!” as they say. Our new house finally feels like home. My friends told me that it would take a year to adjust, and they were right. I’ve gotten used to the sounds of the house, It’s creeks and groans. At first, the wind whistling down the chimney was a bit ghostly, and unnerving, but now it reminds me, and my husband Bob, of our walking the wild, windy golf courses of Scotland, or a summer sail on Long Island Sound. One of my biggest challenges this past year has been to find space to do my Hatha Yoga and meditation practice. Today, my “Yoga Hall” is in the hallway leading to the front door. I share this narrow space with two old friends; a grand father clock that chimes the hour, and our wise, old golden retriever, Boomer. It feels good to plop down on my familiar “Lilly-Pad” yoga mat, and go through the flowing moves. I play some beautiful music which helps inspire my practice on cold winter mornings. Today, the sun is peeping around the corner. Because the space is so open, I’ve made a deal with myself. I take no phone calls during practice, no husband-wife conversations. All that can wait. This is my sacred time. It took longer to find a place to meditate that was private, and did not disturb Bob’s morning routine. I felt like Goldi Locks going from chair to couch until I found a seat that was just right. Finally, I decided sitting in my bed would do just fine. I’ve had fun creating twenty minutes of “Bed Top Yoga” to prepare hips and legs to sit for 45 minutes, as well as breathing techniques to quiet my mind. Some times I do my bed-top yoga in night clothes under warm blankets with pillows for props. These stretches are powerful and can be done on the beginner level as well as for the more experienced. All are done with a focused, quiet mind. These stretches have helped the circulation within my hips and legs immensely, as well the various aches and pains associated with meditative, cross ankle sitting.Thank
you for letting me share some of my journey
with you. Blessings, love, and light upon your pathway,
