DVDs, CDs AND BOOKS "Hi Lilias, I have just begun my 51st year and started with you
back when I found your first book 30 years or so, if I'm not
mistaken. I dabbled with it and then, later on, found your videos
and used them quite extensively for a period. Then, I fell out of
habit and didn't pick it up again until 2002. I did the AM & PM
Workout for Seniors DVD yesterday morning and evening, and was
astonished--you knew every single point on my body that needed to be
stretched. How funny I could not remember the stretches even though
I had done several of them often in the past! But I am very agile
and have been eating raw and growing sprouts again (it's like the
70s all over) so I feel healthy, just very creaky! For the first
time, using your DVD I feel what the Warrior position should feel
like! I've tried it for years and years, but couldn't quite get what
the stretch 'meant' for my body; today I felt it!...both in my legs
and somehow the rest of my body through them. It was a great, great
moment, and fantastically I did it on the other side as well. I
believe that perhaps, because I am so short, the adjustment of the
leg stance was key--I can't do 3 feet out very easily. Thanks for
continuing to teach me throughout my life and for your graceful
soul. Namaste!" "I have had the pleasure of spending time with Lilias some years
ago and again in LA at the IAYT conference in January. She is a
remarkable Yogini, who has much to teach us in relation to taking
complex ideas and Yogic principles and techniques and making them
remarkable simple and suitable for beginners without losing the
richness and depth. Her new book is aimed at the 'not so young' and
is a book that should grace the shelf of all Yoga teachers who want
to be inspired with numerous ideas for keeping it clear, simple and
authentic. It is often difficult to recommend a book to reasonably
new students who can easily be intimidated by the complexity of many
of the contemporary classical texts. This book is certain 'beginner
safe' and is well worth recommending to your students. WHAT OTHERS HAD TO SAY ABOUT LILIAS WORKSHOPS "I have been doing yoga since 1964, when I was 16, and the biggest influence during those years has been Lilias. I watched the show during the 70's and modified my practice to be more like hers. In the classes I teach, my approach is very much like that of Lilias, and I have every one of her books (even a very beat-up paperback from the 70's. So when she appeared in Huntsville, AL in May 2007 I went out of my way (quite a bit out of my way) to attend the weekend. It was even better than anticipated--and Lilias was even better. What a wonderful, gracious presence! I highly recommend her sessions. The calmness, serenity, and yoga high are inspiring." "This weekend was MAGIC. Like a visit from an angel. Thank you for your beauty, grace and open heart. You touched everyone in Huntsville, Shanti, Shanti, Shanti." "Have never attended a program of this length before. It
certainly exceeded my expectations. Lilias has a wonderful
way--gentle and thorough ability to teach." "The feeling of community is wonderful. I was afraid of coming by
myself and felt so at home. We are all on the journey together.
Thank you. Namaste. "I want to thank you for the beautiful weekend at St. Joseph's.
It was one of the peak experiences of my life. I have been staying
in touch with my Inner Smile all day, not an easy feat when you work
in an inner-city school as I do. Your gift to me has been passed on
to the staff at school in the form of the short passage (I shall
pass through this world but once, etc...) I think we had a much
kinder day at PS16! Thank you again. Peace." WHAT OTHERS HAD TO SAY ABOUT LILIAS ON PBS "This is a letter about watching Lilias Folan, the first woman of
yoga, on PBS in New Jersey. Watching Lilias was a life-changing
experience for me. Her gentle guidance in yoga planted a seed that
has grown within me over the years and recently, I became a yoga
teacher myself! I had the wonderful pleasure of meeting Lilias this
weekend in San Diego and taking a class from her. Her spirit glows
with the richness of wisdom and experience--a beacon in a time of
change. We support public television financially and wish you to
know personally that quality programming makes a difference! It
would be wonderful to continue to have Lilias on PBS because her
work and message continues to inspire and inform us as we grow
older." "I love Lilias! You are such an inspiration. I enjoy waking up to
your show on CET in the mornings. It is a wonderful way to start the
day. My seven-year-old daughter practices too. We have shared some
yoga with her class at school. It was a lot of fun. Yoga is a
wonderful way for us to spend some time together. Namaste. "I remember watching your TV show about 30 years ago when we were
both younger. Yoga has kept you young. I am trying to get into a
regular practice so your show at 6:30 a.m. Mon-Fri. on WCET is
helping. Our culture seems to need a dose of inner peace; I practice
yoga for the overall health benefits, including inner peace. Thank
you for sharing your love of yoga." "I love doing yoga with Lilias at 6 a.m. in Phoenix. Your gentle
guidance is a wonderful way to start the day." "Lilias, I have been a student of yours for SO many years! First,
from your TV series, then at the Feathered Pipe Ranch week in July
1986, and Black Mountain, NC in May 1996. I came to yoga in my 40's
and now at 77 with continuing regular practice find it to be my
greatest health benefit. Thank you, my friend, for it all." "Your work in the a.m. show inspires me to get on with my work
each day. At 57 years the body needs a jump start to wake up! I
always learn from your teachings. I am grateful in life for teachers
like you, who assist in the betterment of life. Thank you so much." |
